Tongan international confirms Super League move with new club named

One of the high-profile off-contract NRL players has announced the Super League team that he will be signing for in 2025.

That man is Dolphins centre Tesi Niu who has found himself stuck behind several stars at the club and is now opting for a move to Super League.

Niu joined the Dolphins ahead of their maiden campaign and made 17 appearances but with the arrival of England star Herbie Farnworth and the development of others, Niu has found himself resigned to the Queensland Cup.

There, he was successful with Norths Devils but he’s now confirmed his much-rumoured move to Super League, explaining to Zero Tackle that he has signed for Leigh Leopards for the 2025 campaign.

Reports of Niu’s move to Super League and the Leopards first originated back in August with Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks reporting that the 23-year-old would make the switch to join Adrian Lam’s side after the expiration of his Dolphins’ contract.

That now seems to be the case with Niu revealing details of his Super League switch.

Tesi Niu confirms Super League move

Niu revealed to Zero Tackle that he was departing for the UK after winning the NRL State Championship with Norths Devils, where he played alongside incoming Leeds Rhinos man Cooper Jenkins.

The Devils defeated Newtown Jets 20-18 and for Niu, it was the perfect way to sign off on his time in Australia.

“I’m leaving for the UK and to finish off like this I couldn’t have asked for a better end,” he told Zero Tackle, after confirming that he would be joining Leigh Leopards for the 2025 season.

“I set a goal before and I thought we were going to win the whole thing. To win it, is an incredible feeling and very, very satisfying.”

With that behind him now, Niu is looking forward to making the switch to Super League and he credited Leigh Leopards coach Adrian Lam as a major influence on him making the move.

Niu explained: “To see what he’s done in the game, I’ve got a lot of respect for him and he’s one coach I want to play under.”

With Niu’s arrival all but confirmed, it means that Leigh will have a total of five overseas quota spots filled for 2025 with Niu joining Edwin Ipape, Matt Moylan, Aaron Pene and David Armstrong.

However, recent reports have suggested that Moylan could retire which could change the club’s situation.
