Wigan Warriors full-back Sam Tomkins has told Wigan Today of the frustration his side has endured following Challenge Cup heartache against Hull FC.
The Warriors came close to equalising with a minute left of the match but a forward pass was ruled and their hopes of glory were dashed.
Now the attention for Tomkins’ Wigan moves to Super League and tonight’s match against St Helens, although the defeat to Hull FC will sting for a while.
“Everyone is still frustrated, but we have a chance to pick ourselves up with a good performance,” said Tomkins.
“We undersold ourselves at bit, we need to play well. We didn’t feel we played great but we could easily have won the game. So we’ve got to take the positives – but overwhelmingly the feeling is of frustration.”
Tomkins also talked about the prospect of coming up against St Helens debutant Ben Barba.
Barba was a superstar in the NRL but he is now part of the Saints’ Red Vee and Tomkins knows a lot about his opposite number.
“When he’s on his game he’s one of the best attacking players about,” he added.
“He’s quick and deceptively-strong, and you only need to look at his highlights reel to see that.
“He’s a star of the game, and these are the type of players we want in Super League.
“He is a person who sells tickets and if we want Super League to grow we need players like him playing over here.”
