Hull KR man Tom Opacic is pushing for a return to Brisbane Broncos at the end of the Super League season. That’s according to the Daily Telegraph down under, who claim Opacic still believes he has something to offer the NRL club as he prepares to enter his 30s.
Opacic has been with Hull KR since the start of the 2023 Super League campaign and he has made 46 appearances for the club in that time. However, despite having a year left to run on his contract, the centre will be leaving Craven Park at the end of the current season.
He has been linked with centre vacancies at clubs across Super League, but it seems he will be heading back home to Australia this autumn and he’s keen to continue his career in the NRL. Opacic is no stranger to the Southern Hemisphere’s premier competition and after starting his first grade career with the Broncos, he has also represented North Queensland Cowboys and Parramatta Eels.
The centre is from Redcliffe, which is close to Brisbane, and the report claims he is keen to pursue opportunities with the Broncos for next season. However, it also adds that should he fail to earn a coveted NRL contract, he would be willing to see out the remainder of his playing days playing second grade in the Queensland Cup.
Having played for the Broncos before, he has an affinity with the club and would be keen to end his career where it started. Opacic spent his junior days with Redcliffe Dolphins, but the possibility of a return to NRL with the Dolphins isn’t mentioned.
It is claimed that with Corey Oates and Tristan Sailor leaving the Broncos, Opacic would be able to fill a hole in the outside backs on a minimum $130,000 deal.
The quota spot Opacic will be vacating at Craven Park has already been filled, with the Robins making Rhyse Martin their seventh and final signing for the 2025 Super League season.
