Tom Briscoe provides Hull FC future latest with contract expiring

Tom Briscoe insists he isn’t stressing about his Hull FC future despite being in the final few months of his deal at the club. Briscoe penned an 18-month contract when he made the switch back to East Yorkshire from Leigh Leopards last season and so far he has featured in every Super League game the club have played this season.

His influence and experience have been crucial to the Black and Whites’ cause this year then and he has seven tries to his name to prove it. However, the 35-year-old is one of handful of senior names approaching the end of his contract at the MKM Stadium alongside the likes of Jack Ashworth, Jordan Lane, Ligi Sao and Liam Watts.

Briscoe isn’t giving his situation too much thought though with the outside back confident that something will come his way.

“Not at the moment,” Briscoe said if there was an update on his future. “Just that I’m not really worried about that. I’ve made no qualms about it, I’d like to stay and we’ll just see how performances go and what the club want to do.

“I’m not worried about it, that’ll come. Even if it’s the end of the season, I’m confident that something will transpire.

“My performances on the field personally I think warrant that and that’s all I’m trying do, make sure my performances one the field are good enough to be part of this team going forward.”

Asked how long he felt he might be able to go on for, he replied: “I’m not going to put a number on it. As long as I feel fit and healthy and mentally up for the challenge and as long as I can get a contract and perform to a good enough standard to be in Super League and deserve a spot, I’ll keep playing.

“We’ll see how I feel and how things progress with the club and make a decision when that times comes.”

Hull FC man nearing milestone

In touching down at Salford on Sunday in Hull’s 38-6 win, Briscoe moved to within one effort of recording a century of tries for the club, meaning he has the opportunity to score for the 100th time in black and white this weekend when John Cartwright’s side travel to Warrington Wolves on Saturday.

“Yeah, pretty crazy really,” he said. “It’s been a while since I started at the club and to come back, it was something that I wasn’t aware of. Nice to be on the verge of that.

“It’s funny how things work out to potentially do it where I debuted for the club. Obviously to get to 100 tries is a proud moment and just going into ninth by myself in the top 10 would be a nice achievement.

“I think I can put a lot of those tries down to the teams and players I’ve played with, which I’ll forever be grateful for, the opportunities I’ve had to put me in that position.”
