Todd Carney to resurrect his sporting career for cameo appearance

Todd Carney is set to resurrect his sporting career as he heads back into the boxing ring.

It will be for charity as the former Salford Red Devils and Catalans Dragons halfback will take on a fighter trained by boxing legend Jeff Fenech.

Carney himself began his career with the Canberra Raiders in 2004, before moves to the Sydney Roosters and then the Cronulla Sharks established the halfback as one of the key playmakers in the NRL.

A transfer to the Catalans Dragons in 2015 saw him grace the Super League turf for the first time, with 33 appearances in two seasons in the south of France under his belt.

Salford Red Devils then came calling in 2017, with another 17 appearances to his name before Carney finished his career off with Hull KR in 2018 at just 32 years of age.

Now, though, the 35-year-old will line up against Aboud Wehbe at the Bellevue in Bankstown in late February.

The proceeds will all go to the families of victims of the horrific explosion in the Lebanese capital of Beirut last year that killed more than 200 people and injured over 7000.

There will be no headgear as both fighters engage in a full-on fight, with a sellout crowd of more than 500 people expected to attend.

Over $200,000 is set to be raised in the incredible charity feat.
