Toby King has had a funny old few years.
The centre was inundated with offers in 2021 including from Hull KR and St Helens. But in the end, he decided to sign an extension at Warrington Wolves.
However, halfway through last season, King was involved in a swap loan deal with Jake Wardle joining the Wolves and King joining his hometown club Huddersfield Giants.
But when the two clubs couldn’t agree a permanent swap, they both ended up Wigan.
Now at Wigan, King has spoke on whether or not there is extra pressure on him at Wigan speaking to Betfred:
“I wouldn’t say there’s pressure, Matt wouldn’t put that on me, but I’ve got to perform. I want to win and there’s that one trophy I’ve not won so I’ve come to the right place to do it. It’s definitely the right environment.”
If there is pressure, it comes in the derby against St Helens.
King is excited to have a chance to play in the game: “I’ve always watched that game, it’s probably one of the biggest and best derbies. All around the training ground there’s pictures of what it means to the town and the celebrations of winning it. It gives me goosebumps already to think about walking out in front of a sell-out crowd for a Saints Wigan derby.”
He has also said the set up at Wigan is “second to none”:
“It’s second to none, even the coaching staff. There’s Lockers, Tommy Leuluai and all the other backroom staff as well. It’s just unbelievable the set-up they’ve got, it’s a proud club and it makes it easier for us.”
