Thunder to open Magic Weekend

Newcastle Thunder have announced they will play Doncaster at St James Park as part of Magic Weekend.

The Thunder and Doncaster played two thrilling matches in the playoffs in 2019, with Doncaster winning the first one, and Newcastle winning the second.

Both sides will hope to be promotion candidates come the end of the season in League One.

Magic Weekend returns to Newcastle after a year in Liverpool. Ticket sales are already up 25-per-cent from last year. It will take place on 23rd/24th May.

Thunder chairman Mick Hogan told the club website: “Having Dacia Magic Weekend returning to Newcastle is great news in itself for the sport in the north east. Major events like this provide a huge boost to the continued community development growth that is happening across the region.

“It is an incredible bonus for Newcastle Thunder to be able to open the weekend by playing at such an amazing venue, and there is a tremendous amount of excitement around the club.

“It is great for us to be able to showcase Newcastle Thunder on such a major national stage when fans of all the Super League clubs will be in the city, and just goes to further heighten the excitement surrounding the 2020 season.”

The match will take place on the Saturday, with kick off at 12.30pm.
