Newcastle Thunder have announced the signings of Bradford Bulls pair Ashley Gibson and Mikey Wood for the 2020 season.
Gibson joins with over 150 appearances to his name for several clubs at different levels. He started out at Leeds Rhinos before also appearing for Salford Red Devils, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity in the Super League.
Speaking on his move to the North East, Gibson told the club website: “I got a call of my agent to say Simon and Denis had been in touch and I really wanted to come up.
“I’ve known about the club for a while and I played for Bradford on the Friday night before the Magic Weekend and it was a real good atmosphere.
“It seemed like the club has a really good fan base and hopefully this year, I can do something good.”
Meanwhile, Wood returns to Kingston Park, having spent part of 2016 and 2017 on loan at the club from Huddersfield Giants.
Wood added: “I loved it here when I was on loan. I remember the fans and how loud they were and they used to travel everywhere to watch and all of the lads were sound and made it a right time. That is one of the main reasons I came back up and signed because it is a good club to be at.
“I’ve got a lot more experience now, I played a lot of League 1 for Bradford when they got promoted which was good and then carried on playing with them in the Championship. I understand the game more, what it’s about and I have got more physical as a player.
“I’m hoping to get plenty of game time and score a few tries on the way to the club winning it’s games.”
