Throwback: Johnny Vegas officially plays for St Helens in 2005

There are not many people who can say they have played rugby league for the St Helens’ first team, but comedian Johnny Vegas is one of them.

In 2005 the TV star, who is a life-long Saints fan, was drafted in to play against Hull FC as part of Keiron Cunningham’s testimonial.

He may have only been on the field for five minutes, but what a five minutes it was!

The brief cameo appearance was featured on his very own TV show ’18 Stone of Idiot’ which captured Vegas’ best moments from the game.

Playing alongside a young James Graham, St Helens won the match 28-18 at Knowsley Road.

See all the best bits below and watch out for a brilliant post-match discussion involving Vegas and Saints’ former head coach Ian Millward.
