Throwback: Bradford Bulls win the 2002 Rugby Union Sevens just hours after playing a Super League match

After reigning champions Bradford lost a really tough Super League match to arch-rivals St Helens in August 2002, you would have forgiven them for taking a few days off.

But unfortunately for the battered and bruised Bulls, they had already accepted an invite to play in the Rugby Union Middlesex Sevens the following day.

Taking on the best the RU Premiership had to offer, Brian Noble’s side taught their Union rivals a lesson in a concept they literally knew nothing about until the day.

Showing superior speed and strength, a star-studded Bradford side, led by Robbie Hunter-Paul, eased to the final at Twickenham where they faced the much-fancied London Wasps.

But to the astonishment of the fans, the match was a one-sided affair as the likes of Tevita Vaikona, Lesley Vainikolo and Leon Pryce proved too hot to handle. Watch the final below…
