Throwback: 16-4 down with 8 minutes to go…

Today’s throwback takes us to 2005 when Warrington were aiming to end their hoodoo against St Helens.

The Wolves had beaten Saints only once in 21 Super League meetings but this looked to be their time.

Graham Appo’s try with 8 minutes left put the hosts 16-4 up at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Even commentator Eddie Hemmings called it as the game-clinching try, but he should know to never write off the Saints.

Warrington dominated the game as a Saints team missing Sean Long and Paul Sculthorpe struggled for creativity.

This was a mammoth task even by their standards and having only scored one try in 72 minutes, they needed to score three in just eight minutes, surely they couldn’t, could they?

Watch one of the great comebacks in Super League history unfold below…
