Three Super League players that Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet could sign

Wigan Warriors have enjoyed a stellar 2022 so far.

Third in the Super League table – and victorious in the Challenge Cup Final – it’s fair to say that Wigan have improved drastically from 2021.

At the helm is Wiganer Matty Peet who knows just what the club means to the town and the change in culture and attitude has been like chalk and cheese.

With Lee Briers, Sean O’Loughlin and Shaun Wane alongside him, Peet seems to have found the perfect tonic to get his Warriors players firing as they attempt to take the Super League crown from arch-rivals St Helens.

But, just who should he sign going into 2023?

Mason Lino – Wakefield Trinity

With Tommy Leuluai winding down his career, it’s no secret that Wigan perhaps need a third halfback alongside Cade Cust and Harry Smith going forward. One man that suits the position down to the ground is Wakefield Trinity’s Mason Lino who has impressed greatly in 2022. With a superb goalkicking ability and a devastating running game, Lino would fit in seamlessly.

Brad Dwyer – Leeds Rhinos

Though Sam Powell is the lynchpin of this Wigan side, Brad Dwyer could certainly offer something different off the bench like he currently does for Leeds Rhinos. With the ability to turn a game in an instant, Dwyer’s sniping around the ruck on the back of a dominant pack could help take his game to the next level. The hooker has been linked with a move away from Headingley with St Helens originally linked with his signature, but it is thought that has now gone cold.

Dean Whare – Catalans Dragons

Wigan need a centre with Iain Thornley struggling with injury in 2021 and Jake Bibby expected to leave the DW Stadium for pastures new at the end of this season. Dean Whare is out of contract at Catalans Dragons at the end of 2022 – could it be an easy match? The departure of Zak Hardaker has left something of a gap in there, though if Peet continues in the same vein he has been doing, the likes of Sam Halsall and James McDonnell may be promoted to the first-team.
