Three Super League clubs hold talks with St George Illawarra Dragons prop Josh McGuire

May 1st has been and gone in Super League – the deadline at which players cannot talk or negotiate with other clubs.
Therefore it’s no surprise that the rumour mill is going into overdrive with Super League clubs eager to recruit for 2023 and beyond.
A number of NRL stars are said to be Super League clubs’ targets with St George Illawarra Dragons prop and playmaker Josh McGuire reportedly at the top of multiple transfer lists.
The Daily Telegraph has claimed that McGuire has already held talks with at least three Super League sides but hasn’t ruled out staying in the NRL.
McGuire began his career at Brisbane Broncos, registering almost 200 appearances before moving to the North Queensland Cowboys in 2019.
Another 38 appearances later and 32-year-old McGuire joined St George where he has been for two seasons.
With Warrington Wolves chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick reportedly Down Under in Australia, according to the paper, it’s thought he could be on the wish list of Daryl Powell at the Halliwell Jones.
Powell and Warrington have come under fire so far in 2022 for possessing a lightweight forward pack with their last defeat in Super League against Wigan Warriors showcasing that fact.
However, the aims at Warrington are high – from the top to the bottom – so there will be a strong recruitment drive for 2023 with Canterbury Bulldogs star Matt Dufty also rumoured to be in the Wolves’ sights.
