Three Super League clubs’ fans who should be most pleased with transfer business heading into 2022

The Super League off-season is always full of rumour and speculation.

But, a number of deals have already been done and clubs are taking shape so they can put their best 17 on the field.

The 2022 Super League season has already been revealed to start on Thursday 10 February, but just which three clubs have done the best business heading into it?

Castleford Tigers

I think it’s fair to say that Castleford have had the most upheaval in the off-season following the departure of head coach Daryl Powell after eight-and-a-half years in charge, whilst a number of their most experienced players have left or retired such as Michael Shenton, Grant Millington and Jesse Sene-Lefao. That being said, new boss Lee Radford has built a strong squad, signing former Hull FC stars Mahe Fonua and Bureta Faraimo as well as Huddersfield back-rower Kenny Edwards and Warrington flier Jake Mamo. Add into that the excitement surrounding the Jungle under the new era and the Tigers look well-placed to improve on their disappointing finish in 2021.

Hull FC

Hull FC boss Brett Hodgson identified his side’s weaknesses and has gone all out to rectify them. He has brought in winger Darnell McIntosh from Huddersfield, hooker Joe Lovodua and prop forward Kane Evans from the NRL and Luke Gale from Leeds. The Black and Whites often looked lost in 2021, but with halfback Gale at the helm, they have someone who can take the game by the scruff of the neck. In Evans they have a powerful forward who can mix it with anyone, whilst Lovodua is an exciting young number nine who can push Danny Houghton all the way. Plus, McIntosh is pure class. Four signings made, but all of them improve Hodgson’s side.

Leeds Rhinos

Like Hull, Leeds have recruited just four new men ahead of the 2022 season, but what a quartet. Grand Final winner James Bentley has joined from St Helens, whilst Blake Austin and Aidan Sezer reunite in the halves from their time at the Canberra Raiders. David Fusitu’a is also an incredible signing on the wing. It is definitely a quartet that can push the Rhinos to the next level, with all four having an exciting aura about them that has got Leeds fans dreaming of glory in 2022. All that’s left to ask is who will coach them?
