Three stars of the future score hat-tricks and first teamers figure as Hull KR reserves run riot against Huddersfield Giants

Hull KR downed Huddersfield 66-16 today in reserve grade as three players scored hat-tricks.

Those players went to youngsters Bailey Dawson in the backrow, centre Connor Barley and highly rated fullback Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e.

The Robins also included Sam Wood on the wing who, after a strong start to his career at Craven Park has dropped down the pecking order where the backline is concerned owing to good form from Ben Crooks and Ethan Ryan on the right flank.

It does also shed light on Tony Smith’s team selection tomorrow with two members of the 21-man squad playing today with Greg Richards starring at 13 alongside wood. There was also a spot for Korbin Sims at prop who wasn’t named in the 21-man squad.

Greg Richards also got himself a try in the 50-point win.

Ben Dean, Jack Billington and Tobias Morley were the try scorers for Huddersfield on a difficult afternoon. Billington’s day was a mixed bag as he also picked up a yellow card.

It was a very young side put out by the Giants and would have been a great learning experience. It is also a reminder of the injuries currently at Huddersfield with their incredibly strong squad being fully utilised with a number of key players absent recently including Luke Yates, Chris Hill, Theo Fages and Olly Russell.
