“This is utter bo**ocks, you hold football friendlies at Wembley yet one of the biggest competitions in Rugby League gets moved!” – how social media reacted to the Challenge Cup being moved venue

It took almost everyone by surprise, but this morning’s news that the Challenge Cup will not be played at Wembley next year but rather Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium prompted some interesting debates.

It will be the first final to be hosted away from Wembley since 2006 when St Helens thrashed Huddersfield at Twickenham, but organisers have revealed that the final will return there for 2023.

How did social media react to the news?

One person couldn’t understand the decision.

Another fan complained about the logistical problems faced with the stadium change.

One fan in particular didn’t like the decision.

Another supporter pointed out the clash that will take place with the football.

Most, however, saw the opportunity to take the final to somewhere new and embraced it.

Another fan believed it was time to move away from Wembley.

One fan felt that it should be a changing concept anyway.

Another spoke from experience.

One fan said it would be ‘rocking’ if full.

Another called Wembley ‘too big’ for rugby league.

It shows how much the game is on it’s arse and dying if ppl think wembley is too big for rugby league you don’t have to go back too far when we had crowds of over 90k…my first final in 1985 was just shy of a 100k
