Ian Watson’s Huddersfield Giants came close to a big Challenge Cup upset this afternoon against Barrow Raiders.
In front of a packed out Craven Park, Barrow ran their Super League opponents mightily close, with the game going down to the wire only to finish 30-16 in Huddersfield’s favour.
However, Watson praised Barrow immensely and in particular their right edge.
“I thought they were outstanding, we knew what to expect from Barrow,” Watson said.
“I told the boys not to come down here and expect to roll them over because it’s a tough place to come.
“I thought we started really well, but their right edge is phenomenal, they’ve got a good right edge as Super League sides.”
Watson also highlighted the fact that he had to make a few enforced changes with some injuries and suspensions popping up.
“We’ve had a few changes this week, making sure we were professional and get the job done.
“We’ve lost Tui Lolohea and it was important that Olly Russell stood up and he’s done a great job in leading us around.”
