Kyle Feldt believes he’s still very much at the peak of his powers as he prepares to make his first appearance for St Helens. The winger makes the move to the Totally Wicked Stadium after his most prolific scoring season in the NRL as a player.
The winger, who made his debut for North Queensland Cowboys back in 2013 and amassed 217 appearances for the club, scored 23 tries in 25 outings last season down under. That includes a run of 12 tries in his last eight games for the club, which helped take the Cowboys to the semi-finals of the NRL play-offs.
As such, it’s fair to say the 33-year-old arrives in England in red hot form and he’s keen to carry that into Super League with St Helens hosting Salford Red Devils in their opener this weekend.
“I think last year was one of the better years I’ve played rugby league wise,” Feldt told Serious About Rugby League. “I am excited to get back out on the pitch and start playing and I hope the Saints fans tune in a little bit and see exactly what I can do. They’re not signing a bum!
“It’s going to be great to get out there and show exactly what I can do.”
We’re still not ready for him to leave, but how good was Kyle Feldt’s final try in Townsville!

Feldt’s last outing for the Cowboys ended prematurely as he picked up a calf injury in the semi-final loss to Cronulla Sharks but that’s not something he has brought with him.
“I made sure I got that all right before I came over here,” Feldt said. “I didn’t want to come over here with a little niggling injury. I did all the stuff I had to before I came over just so I could hit the ground running.”
Feldt may not have spent too much time in England prior to making the move over but fortunately for him he was able to pick the brains of two modern day St Helens greats before joining up with Paul Wellens’ side.
“One of my good mates Lachlan Coote, I talked to him a fair bit and his wife about what to expect over here and they gave me a great insight into what to do and places to see as well,” he added. “I spoke to Kristian Woolf as well so I had two great people to bounce ideas off and to understand what it’s like over here.”
He added: “I think the biggest appeal was the amount of silverware they’ve won. In previous years they’ve won four in a row and only had a couple of down years. I just want to help them get back to winning ways and be part of a successful club and that was one of the big driving factors to move over here.
“To come over and challenge myself in a different game. It is a bit of a different game compared to the NRL, it’s a bit slower and a bit more attacking so it’s going to be a challenge.”
