Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has opened up about his pride after victory over Salford last night.
After a stunning end to the regular season, the Leopards march on in the play-offs due to victory over Salford Red Devils.
The game, played in front of a large crowd in Salford, saw them go behind, but some excellent tries – including one due to some individual brilliance from Edwin Ipape – were enough to secure the victory.
Now, they will have a semi-final, against Hull KR or Wigan Warriors, depending on whether Warrington or St Helens win tonight.
It’s the first time they’ve ever reached this stage in Super League.
“There’s nothing better” – Adrian Lam on Leigh Leopards after play-off victory
Asked how this moment ranked in terms of his time as Leigh head coach, he said: “Yeah, it’s up there. Just in the sense of progressing from where we were last year.
“At some stage in the season it looked like that was not going to happen. So, top four finish now at least. So, I’m just proud of the performance.”
He continued: “I still can’t get my head around what we did. To be honest, it’s just inspirational for all the watchers.
“I was just saying to the boys in there that I’ve been around rugby for a long time, just the atmosphere here, there’s nothing better in rugby league around the world than a British game where both ends of fans are singing for half an hour prior to the game.
“It was just an unbelievable atmosphere to be a part of and then quite obviously the win. It just tops that off.”
It’s certainly another fantastic moment in the recent history of Leigh Leopards, and they’ll no doubt be looking to go even further next week.
