“There’s no big egos” – Castleford Tigers signing impressed by new teammates

Castleford Tigers have made a number of signings ahead of the 2023 season including a number of young British players such as Bailey Dawson.

The former Hull KR man was one a number of young players who chose to join Lee Radford’s Castleford Tigers in 2023.

He debuted against Featherstone Rovers on New Year’s Day and was delighted to make his debut for the Tigers.

He said to the club’s website:

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have made my debut! I’ve been training hard and so have the other boys all pre-season. It was a tough old slog in that game, and all the fans that were here will know that as well, but I really enjoyed it. I think I’ve got some big positives from that game.

“We’ve been training on astroturf so it’s a little bit different to what we’re used to. Obviously, we get protected at training, but this was definitely a tough challenge.”

He had big praise for the whole squad’s role in the fixture including the youngsters and the older players commenting that the lack of egos helped the Tigers:

“The young boys that have stepped up from Academy and Reserves, they didn’t look out of place at all. I think it was a tough test and they made themselves accountable definitely, so pat on the back to them. I think the older boys definitely helped too! They really helped us out, with their talk and the way they apply themselves. It was really good.”

“Everyone is together, there are no big egos. That’s the environment that Radders and Lasty have built around the club. Daniel Smith today, with Mahe Fonua and Bureta Faraimo, they help us out and make everything feel comfortable so credit to them.”
