Huddersfield Giants interim coach Luke Robinson has opened up on the situation he has found himself in since taking on the role after Ian Watson was sacked.
Previously the assistant coach, he stepped up to take charge for the Giants’ game against Leigh Leopards at the weekend, which they narrowly lost. The game before that – the last under Ian Watson – was a 48-0 defeat to Warrington Wolves, with the Leigh performance a marked improvement.
Speaking on the situation surrounding the squad, Robinson has revealed, on Sky Sports‘ The Verdict: “It’s very difficult at this moment in time.
“There were things going on behind the scenes for weeks and months with players, with his captain and numerous other players. It’s not a quick fix, it’s something that’s going to take a little bit of time to do.”
With just ten games left of the Super League season, fans of the Giants will be hoping that this fix can come before time runs out.

“I think we’ve tried to iron out as much as I can, bring the group together, which I think anybody who watched that game at Leeds saw a group of players that were actually willing to put in a lot of effort for each other. Yeah, they were definitely strides in the right direction, but there’s a little bit of healing to do yet. It’s very difficult this moment in time.”
Asked on what went wrong for Ian Watson, who was dismissed from his head coaching role just last week, he responded: “There were a lot of different parts. It wasn’t just a case of he fell out with one player or two players.
“There’s a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that I probably wasn’t privy to, even as an assistant coach.”
