The transfer trick Castleford Tigers have up their sleeve in relegation battle

Round 18 of the Betfred Super League saw the relegation battle blown wide open as Wigan Warriors were stunned by Wakefield Trinity at Belle Vue allowing Trinity to trim the gap to Castleford Tigers down to just two points after they lost to Leigh Leopards.

For a long time is looked certain that Wakefield would be headed to the Championship in 2024 especially as they lost their first 14 games of the season.

They then stunned Leeds Rhinos in Round 15 to give them some home with Castleford on six points after two wins over Leeds themselves and a win over Wakefield at Easter.

But the hope Wakefield had seemed to be snuffed out when Castleford shocked Warrington Wolves in Round 16.

However, Wakefield have battled right back into the fight for survival defeating Salford Red Devils with ease in Round 17 prior to shocking Wigan Warriors last weekend to trim the gap down to two points.

Castleford lost their last two but their is no shame in losing to the teams currently in second (Leigh) and third (St Helens).

That said the momentum appears to be with Wakefield and this all came from their mid season recruitment and especially signing David Fifita.

However, the Tigers could still turn the tables. They have a quota spot to use after Jake Mamo’s immediate retirement earlier this year.

If the Tigers can find the right signing they could still turn the tables on Wakefield and secure Super League survival.

Such a signing could give them the momentum which is right now firmly behind Wakefield.
