The top five Super League signings of 2022

For many clubs, 2022 was a transformative season and for many of those club who would say that at the heart of that was a transformative signing or two.

So, as the year comes to a close, here are the five best Super League signings of 2022.

5. Cade Cust: Manly Sea Eagles – Wigan Warriors
With huge boots to fill as he replaced Jackson Hastings at the DW Stadium, yet he certainly did that. Overlooked by many as he arrived, he was the perfect stand-off to go in Matty Peet’s attacking machine.

4. Tui Lolohea: Salford Red Devils – Huddersfield Giants
Huddersfield made plenty of transformative signings such as Chris Hill from Warrington Wolves and Theo Fages from St Helens but it was Tui Lolohea who had the biggest impact. He scored and created tries all season and was perhaps the attacking force Huddersfield needed to become competitive in 2022.

3. Zak Hardaker: Wigan Warriors – Leeds Rhinos
Zak Hardaker returned to Headingley when Leeds were struggling in a relegation battle but played a key role in guiding Leeds to the Grand Final. Not a return that anyone ever predicted but one that had a big impact on the season. He rarely had a bad game if ever in his brief second Leeds stint and was key at fullback and centre. He defended brilliantly for the Rhinos and many are saddened to see him head to Leigh Leopards.

2. Tim Lafai: Unattached – Salford Red Devils
When you have the power to dismantle the Champions St Helens, you are a special played. He forced his way into the Dream Team and devastated teams with his power and his brilliant offload game.

1. Brodie Croft: Brisbane Broncos – Salford Red Devils
Lafai wasn’t the only brilliant signing Salford made. They also brought in Man of Steel Brodie Croft who was one of the best players to watch in world rugby in 2022. A devastating runner, had he been available for the semi-final, Salford could have returned to Old Trafford.
