You can have the best looking attack in the world, but if you don’t have the quality required at the end of this attack to finish of those moves, then you are fighting with a blunt sword.
A finisher is often found on the wing but can come in other roles such as centre, at fullback or even the halves as with Leeds Rhinos legend Danny McGuire.
But who are the best finishers currently in Super League, here’s our top five.
5. Jai Field – Wigan Warriors
When putting together this list, I considered which players would I trust to score at the end of an attacking move and Jai Field is right up there. If Wigan make a break, you know he will be around somewhere waiting to pounce and his pace and agility allows him to take advantage of almost any and every opportunity.
4. Ken Sio – Salford Red Devils
No player has scored as many tries over the last 24 months as the 2021 top try scorer and getting close to the accolade in 2022. An acrobatic finisher too, give him some space he will score.
3. Bevan French – Wigan Warriors
In many ways French is the ideal attaching weapon. He can produce the acrobatic finishes of a winger but he has the positional awareness and speed that Jai Field does to finish long range moves too.
2. Ryan Hall – Hull KR
Give the ball to Ryan Hall in a bit of space and nine times out of 10 he will score. Just look at what he has done in an England shirt in the past as well as a Leeds Rhinos shirt specifically in the 2015 semi-final. Now at Hull KR he is still scoring tries for fun.
1. Tommy Makinson – St Helens
With power and pace as well as positional awareness he has been the best winger in Super League for some time. He is also capable of those acrobatic finishes.
