The three positions Hull FC must recruit in for 2025 with work to do for Richie Myler

Hull FC are closing in on another new signing for the 2025 Super League season, it seems. According to Hull Live, the Black and Whites are pushing to land half-back Aidan Sezer from Wests Tigers.

It’s a move that seems to have split opinion among supporters of the Black and Whites, but it’s one that fills a gaping hole in the halves, with Jake Trueman signing with Wakefield Trinity. Sezer would become Hull’s seventh signing ahead of next season and with Cade Cust expected to join, too, that’s eight new faces expected to arrive at the MKM Stadium.

However, just one look at the club’s squad depth for 2025 shows there is still plenty to be done as they prepare to welcome John Cartwright to the club as head coach. Director of rugby Richie Myler outlined his belief that the club still had work to do when speaking earlier this month and here’s a look at three positions he might be considering.

Outside-back

There’s no doubt about it, Hull FC are short of established senior talent on the flanks. The club have moved to add the likes of Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain, while Tom Briscoe was brought in from Leigh Leopards earlier this season.

It looks as though Carlos Tuimavave could be leaving the MKM Stadium at the end of the season, though, and his experience will be a big loss. Lewis Martin has been one of Hull’s shining lights on the left wing this season with the youngster establishing himself as one of the club’s brightest young talents, while Davy Litten and Harvey Barron continue to make strides in their development further down pecking order.

The off-season addition of Liam Tindall is one that has fallen flat with the winger struggling for a look in with FC despite their lack of options. As such, it’s not hard to look at Hull’s outside-backs and come to the conclusion that they could do with a little something extra.
Hull would still have a quota spot to fill even if they complete the signing of Sezer and they may well look Down Under to give themselves more star quality in the outside backs.

Full-back

This is a tricky one given the emergence of Logan Moy this season and the obvious talent he possesses. Moy has shown his class and potential on a number of occasions this season and the last thing Hull would want to do is block his progression.

They’ll also be very aware that Moy has just turned 19, though, and as he continues to develop as a player and a man, they’ll be keen to avoid the risk of over-exposing him at the top level. The club do have Jack Walker, who has missed a lot of game time this season, and they’ll be more than aware of what he can produce on his day, too.

However, the club were in for Tristan Sailor before his move to St Helens, showing they are keen on a full-back and another option is yet to emerge. A senior figure in that role would certainly help bring stability to Hull’s spine in the short-term, but it would also provide Moy with another helping hand as he looks to step up and secure his spot in the side for the future.

Middle

When it comes to props, Hull FC already have Herman Ese’ese, Brad Fash, Ligi Sao, Jack Ashworth and Yusuf Aydin tied down for next season, while John Asiata, Will Gardiner and Nick Staveley offer loose-forward depth. However, given the injuries and suspensions FC have racked up this season, they have often found themselves turning to the academy or even other teams in order to fill holes in the side.

The Black and Whites currently have Leon Ruan, and Sam Eseh Jr on loan from Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors respectively, while King Vuniyayawa and Tiaki Chan have also spent time at the club in recent weeks. It’s clearly been something of a problem area for the club then and another middle addition might just go a long way towards avoiding the need for such emergency loans in the future.
