2023 has begun and the Super League season is just weeks away as the latest chapter of rugby league is written.

Meanwhile calls have been made that Super League should look to introduce the captain’s challenge though this seems unlikely with the inability to have video referees at every game.

However, speaking about the video referee, they could adopt the NRL’s approach to the video referee.

Yes, they referee certain tries direct to the bunker, but the video referee also reviews everything in the background even the things that was somewhat missed.

This would remove any major mistakes from key moments in the game and also ensure referees don’t feel obliged to check the small things knowing they will be checked anyway speeding up the game.
