The staggering deal that Warrington Wolves were able to lure Josh McGuire with

It always interests rugby league fans to see how much players earn or will earn from a potential deal.

Well, the NRL has revealed its 100 Rich List and one of those included in the list is new Warrington Wolves signing Josh McGuire.

McGuire, who has signed a two-year deal at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, will link up the Cheshire club ahead of the 2023 Super League season.

In that Rich List, the 32-year-old powerful forward currently has a contract worth $500,000 at the St George Illawarra Dragons – a contract just under £300,000.

Now it remains to be seen what deal McGuire has etched with the Wolves, but if his NRL deal is anything to by, it is not going to be peanuts.

McGuire brings a wealth of experience to the Warrington pack, having represented Queensland in State of Origin on 14 occasions as well Australia at international level. He was part of the Kangaroo’s World Cup winning side in 2017 and also has Test experience with Samoa.

The 32-year-old has made 252 NRL appearances to date and will join from the Dragons after being at hometown club Brisbane Broncos for ten years.

Upon making the big move: “The opportunity to come over and play for Warrington is one I’m really excited about.

“It’s always been in the back of my mind to come over and play in this part of the world during my career. I’m a huge footy nut. I’ve been watching Super League for a long time and I’m a big fan of the English game. I think it can really suit me.

“I’m looking forward to getting over, wearing the primrose and blue and doing something special with this group.

“With the new additions, the pack that’s building there and the young guys coming through I’m very excited to be part of the squad for next year.”

Daryl Powell is building a huge squad for 2023 with McGuire just one of the likes of Sam Kasiano, Gil Dudson and Paul Vaughan to be making the move
