Hull KR announced two huge deals earlier this week as they confirmed that Oliver Gildart and Joe Burgess have signed new contracts.
Gildart will be sticking around until the end of the 2028 season after committing his future to the club and he’ll be playing alongside Burgess on the edge for the next two seasons at the very least with the winger penning terms until the end of 2027.
It’s a huge boost for the club and it ensures one of the most potent left edges in Super League will remain in tact for a while longer at least.
Both men were off contract this season and it means the club can sit a little more comfortable knowing two of their star men are wrapped up.
However, the Robins still have six contract calls to make this year with some key players entering the final years of their respective contracts.
Sticking with outside backs, KR must make a decision on the future of Peta Hiku this year. The centre turned 33 in December meaning his contract is currently due to expire just before his 34th birthday.
Given his age, Rovers might well be wise to consider how he starts the season before jumping in and wrapping up the New Zealand international for at least another year.
Something similar can be said for Sauaso Sue, who turns 34 in April. He’s approaching his fourth season as a Robin and he demonstrated last season that he is still very much on top of his game.
KR will have been keeping a keen eye on the numbers Sue has been posting in pre-season and while any deal is likely to be short-term, a decision will likely be made on how he starts the campaign in the Rovers front-row.
Rhyse Martin has only been with KR a season but the two-year deal he signed with the club is due to expire this year, too. The 32-year-old is another Rovers will be monitoring as they plan for 2027 and beyond.
Jack Brown will be keen to hit the ground running in 2026 after playing a bit-part role in the treble winning campaign. The former Hull FC man will know that if he can make himself an established member of Willie Peters’ 17-man squad then he will stand a good chance of earning himself a new deal.
Lee Kershaw and Zach Fishwick find themselves in the same boat and while they do find themselves down the pecking order at Craven Park, the ball is in their court to catch the eye where possible.
