The one accolade that has alluded them – St Helens’ New Year’s Resolution

The new year is just days away and with it will come a new Super League season just seven weeks into the beginning of the latest chapter of human history.

A new year is a time when everyone looks to make a new start and make a change as they begin a new year.

This is why we get New Year’s Resolutions every year from so many people.

This desire for a new start shouldn’t be restricted to people though and could very well apply to Super League clubs.

So, what should St Helens resolution be going into 2023?

For the Saints, it is the same as ever.

There is one accolade that has alluded this great team that would perhaps cement themselves as the greatest Super League side ever.

That of course is the treble which has only been won in 2003 by the Bradford Bulls, St Helens in 2006 by Daniel Anderson’s St Helens, and Leeds Rhinos in 2015.

Saints should have won the treble in 2018 and 2019, especially in 2019. In 2020 and 2021 they could have been forgiven as they didn’t finish top though they did win the double in 2021.

Had they have beaten Wigan Warriors in the 2022 Challenge Cup semi-final, they would have been odds on for the treble.

So, can Saints finally win the treble?

Speaking of accolades that would cement their greatness, a World Club Challenge win down under would also do that.
