The new-look potential Huddersfield Giants line-up for 2025 – including NRL giants’ top-scorer

Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants have had some solid recruitment despite a poor year.

They already knew Tom Burgess would be joining for 2025 back in February, while further recruitment from NRL has been high on the agenda.

However, after big losses such as of Luke Yates, Esan Marsters and Kevin Naiqama, they’re still in need of further rebuilding under Luke Robinson.

Jake Connor has joined Leeds Rhinos for next year, leaving the Giants without their first-choice number one.

Tui Lolohea played there on occasion last year, but will probably be needed in the halves as things stand, meaning Ashton Golding could be their full-back choice in 2025, barring further recruitment.

Wingers: Adam Swift and Jacob Gagai

The Giants do have a fair few choices on the wings, with Swift back from injury and Jake Bibby, Elliot Wallis, Aidan McGowan and Sam Halsall being potential options.

If Jacob Gagai – the South Sydney Rabbitohs top try-scorer in 2024 – joins, he’ll surely start ahead of most, after nine tries in 17 NRL games in his debut NRL season in 2024.

He’s been heavily linked with joining the club.

Centres: Liam Sutcliffe and Jake Bibby

New signing Liam Sutcliffe is likely to be with the centres in mind, as that’s where he has played recently and because Esan Marsters and Kevin Naiqama are leaving.

Alongside him may be Jake Bibby, but Sam Halsall is also capable of playing here – despite being more natural out wide.

Halves: Adam Clune and Tui Lolohea

The Giants may well be looking for a new half-back, as Clune and Lolohea are the only players on their books that have played in the halves consistently.

Liam Sutcliffe has also played there on occasion, but would be better utilised in the centres.

Front row: Tom Burgess, Zac Woolford and George King

Prop Chris Hill and hooker Adam Milner are off, but they’re being replaced with two NRL recruits and a solid one from Super League.

Tom Burgess is back after 12 years away, and he’ll be a strong option in the prop position.

Oliver Wilson had a particularly solid year in 2024, but George King seems more likely to be a starter.

Meanwhile, Zac Woolford has made 39 NRL appearances for Canberra Raiders and is a smart addition at number nine.

Back row: Harry Rushton, Sam Hewitt and Leroy Cudjoe

A position where they have retained their key names, Rushton, Hewitt and Cudjoe were the first-choice in their positions at the end of the year, once Luke Yates had left, and they’re still with Huddersfield Giants next year.

Cudjoe may provide some much-needed leadership for next year, after the loss of Luke Yates to Warrington on a permanent deal.
