The most and least penalised sides in Super League revealed

Restricting the number of errors made in a rugby league game is essential when moving forward.

Errors, of course, pile pressure on to a team whilst being penalised can make things worse and can often lead to points or potentially one less player in the team.

For the amount of penalties given in Super League in 2022, there are some quite surprising facts about which teams have been penalised the most.

Coming in at first place is Salford Red Devils with 98 penalties being given away, with reigning champions St Helens in second place with 97.

Toulouse Olympique come in at third with 91 as French rivals Catalans Dragons just behind them with 90.

At the other end of the table is the Wigan Warriors, who have been awarded just 71 penalties in 2022 – a remarkable 27 behind Salford in top spot.

Warrington Wolves are next on 73 as Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR sit jointly on 76.

Wakefield Trinity have conceded 79 with Huddersfield Giants next with 80 as Castleford Tigers sit in sixth with 82.

Hull FC are in fifth with 85 penalties conceded.

Of course, a number of arguments can be made for each side – do they have the ball more or are they having to defend more? Those that defend more will obviously concede more penalties.
