The major reason why Jake Trueman’s switch to Wakefield Trinity could be the perfect move

Jake Wakefield vs Wakefield Trinity

It has been confirmed that Jake Trueman has joined Wakefield Trinity from Hull FC.

The halfback was in his best form early in his career, part of Daryl Powell’s Castleford Tigers side that made it to the Grand Final in 2017, picking up the League Leaders’ Shield in the process, and was at the club until 2022.

He was, at one time, seen as the future of England and Great Britain, but injury problems meant his Tigers career ended on the injury table.

Since joining the Black and Whites, he hasn’t managed to play any of the first nine rounds of a season due to even more injury problems, but managed eleven-straight games this year before a calf problem.

He has now joined Wakefield Trinity after being released from the final year of his contract – with a permanent deal completed before the transfer deadline, which also saw him loaned back to Hull FC until the end of their season.

He’ll be free for the final game of the regular season – against Doncaster – as well as the semi-final and potentially the final for Trinity.

Why Wakefield Trinity could be the perfect place for Jake Trueman

Trueman’s career started with so much promise, but he has been unable to reach those heights for a number of years.

Being with Daryl Powell next year could present a huge opportunity for him – his best form was under Powell, and working with him again may get the most out of him.

Towards the end of his time at Castleford, he played alongside a huge number of players in the halves. His partnership with Danny Richardson was, at one point, seen as a hugely promising one, but even that didn’t provide stability.

Now, the same problem has continued at Hull FC – but with Olly Russell committed to Wakefield on a four-year deal, there’s a chance Trueman could finally have a consistent half-back partner going forward.

In addition, next season is full of unknowns for Wakefield Trinity – nobody is really sure how they’ll fare with so many new signings, so expectation may not weigh as heavily on him as at Hull FC.

His quality was particularly evident against Wigan Warriors this year, and if Trinity reach their potential, he could be in the perfect place to get his career back on track.
