The incident that nearly got Salford Red Devils man & England’s St Helens star into trouble

England’s meeting with France must have been a long one for the disciplinary panel to review with six separate incidents cited with two of them coming after England stars were placed on report.

Five of the players cited with England players and five were middle forwards in the shape of Mikolaj Oledzki, Tom Burgess, Victory Radly, and Luke Thompson.

Meanwhile, Thompson’s former St Helens teammate and one of England’s star men of the tournament Jack Welsby was also cited.

This was because of an altercation between him and Morgan Escare.

Escare started at fullback for France in the game after as the Salford Red Devils star looked to cause England problems.

Meanwhile, Welsby also spent time at fullback before switching to centre when Escare’s Salford teammate Kallum Watkins went off.

However, despite the movement of Welsby around the pitch, the two fullbacks had an altercation which sparked a what the disciplinary panel referred to as a “melee.”

However, neither man was suspended for their part in causing the “melee” due to the fact no punches were thrown with the panel saying: “Player gets involved in confrontation with opponent but does not throw any punches.”

The following players however were banned:

· Tui Kamikamica (Fiji): Grade A Dangerous Contact, 1 Match Penalty Notice

· Liam Byrne (Ireland): Grade A Dangerous Contact, 1 Match Penalty Notice

· Jaimin Jolliffe (Ireland): Grade A High tackle, 1 Match Penalty Notice

· Liam Byrne (Ireland): Grade A Dangerous Contact, 1 Match Penalty Notice

The following players received cautions:

· Taniela Sadrugu (Fiji): Dangerous Contact

· Liam Byrne (Ireland): Other Contrary Behaviour
