The five Super League clubs with the best spines

The spine of a team is what often leads them to glory. But who has the best spine in Super League?

Here’s our top five.

5. Hull FC
Tex Hoy, Jake Trueman, Jake Clifford, Danny Houghton
In Tex Hoy and Jake Clifford, Hull FC already have a ready made dangerous combination from Newcastle Knights whilst in Jake Trueman they have an exciting young attacking halfback. Danny Houghton will add experience and composure only for Brad Dwyer to come off the bench and cause defences problems.

4. Huddersfield Giants
Tui Lolohea, Jake Connor, Theo Fages, Nathan Peats
Huge quality in the Huddersfield Giants squad. In Jake Connor they have a super star who next to Tui Lolohea will devastate teams. Meanwhile, Theo Fages is a great organiser and a Super League Champion in the past. Meanwhile, Nathan Peats will provide further balance replacing Danny Levi.

3. Salford Red Devils
Ryan Brierley, Brodie Croft, Marc Sneyd, Andy Ackers
Andy Ackers was perhaps Super League’s best number nine in 2022 and earnt a place in Shaun Wane’s England squad for the Rugby League World Cup. As for Brodie Croft, he was Super League’s best in 2022 winning the Man of Steel. Out the back there is Ryan Brierley providing threat whilst Marc Sneyd knits it all together.

2. Wigan Warriors
Jai Field, Cade Cust, Harry Smith, Sam Powell
Jai Field was unlucky not to win the Man of Steel in 2023 after a scintillating season and he helps ensure Wigan are high on this list. As for Cade Cust, he was a brilliant signing for the club in 2022 and will be joined by one of the best young halfbacks in the league in Harry Smith. Sam Powell meanwhile is one of the most underrated players in the league.

1. St Helens
Jack Welsby, Jonny Lomax, Lewis Dodd, James Roby
The Super League Champions unsurprisingly have the best spine in the league which is probably why they are the four times reigning Champions. Jack Welsby is one of the most dangerous players around, Lewis Dodd is equally dangerous and already a Super League Champion at a young age. Meanwhile, Jonny Lomax could very well be the league’s best player in recent years and led the Saints to Grand Final glory in 2023. As for James Roby, he is perhaps the best hooker in Super League history.
