The five best assistant coaches currently in Super League

Behind ever leading Head Coach, is a strong backroom staff and this is true of the top Super League coaches currently in the competition.

But which team has the best assistant coach?

Here’s our top five:

Danny McGuire – Hull KR
The fact Danny McGuire was linked with both the Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR jobs last year underlines his quality as does the success he had as interim Hull KR boss last year as he replaced Tony Smith. The Leeds Rhinos legend is sure to bag a Head Coach role one day soon.

James Ford – Wakefield Trinity
One of the best young British coaches, he was brilliant at York and upon his departure was described as a future England coach by the York Chairman. He adds plenty to Mark Applegarth’s backroom staff at Belle Vue.

Andy Last – Castleford Tigers
Speaking of England, the fact that Andy Last was entrusted with a role in the England set up for the World Cup underlines his quality as does the fact Lee Radford clearly trusts him with Last following him to the Tigers.

Kurt Haggerty – Salford Red Devils
The work Ian Blease has done to secure Haggerty at Salford alongside Paul Rowley shows how highly rated he is. Key to their success in 2022, he will again be as Salford look to kick on in 2023.

Laurent Frayssinous – St Helens
Smart business from the Champions. They employed the inexperienced club legend Paul Wellens as Kristian Woolf’s replacement, and thus appointed the France coach and former Catalans Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous as his assistant.
