“The downfall of St Helens” – How social media reacts to Leigh Leopards’ stunning win

St Helens are the Super League Champions of the last four years.

They are the World Champions too.

But last night the newly promoted Leigh Leopards found a way to beat them and now it is two defeats in a row for the Champions and unsurprisingly social media exploded with reaction last night.

One fan joked that this was the downfall of St Helens after half a decade of dominance.

Another described it as “embarrassing” though it should be said that this is a very good Leigh side.

One Saints fan called for the immediate return of Kristian Woolf.

Whilst another Saints supporter took aim at his side’s discipline in the defeat.

One supporter meanwhile claimed that the man behind the Saints’ defeat was referee Chris Kendall perhaps doing a disservice to the players themselves.

Rival fans joked asking who the Saints were going to blame this week.

Others continued to suggest that the dynasty Saints have built is now officially over.

Whilst those ripping into Saints and expecting “excuses” continued.

Leigh fans were delighted especially as Saints led 12-0.

“What a win” was the response of one fan.

Rubbing salt in the wound, this Leigh fan pointed out that the Leopards were also missing some key players.
