The dark horses for Super League promotion

The fight for Super League promotion in 2023 is set to be one of the most competitive battles for promotion in a long time.

The likes of Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers, Toulouse Olympique and Halifax Panthers have all been tipped to be well in the mix but as ever there will be other dark horses in the battle for Super League.

So, here’s our dark horses for Super League promotion in 2023.

Keighley Cougars
The newly promoted Keighley Cougars have stunned many with their business bringing in the likes of Ben Crooks from Hull KR, Mark Ioane from Leigh Leopards and others from Super League. Of course, there biggest signing has been former Man of Steel, Castleford Tigers, Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos star Luke Gale. Carrying the momentum of an unbeaten season and having stars like Dane Chisholm already at the club, they could pish for promotion.

York
York have been a club with a massive potential in the last few years and still have it but may have been somewhat dismissed after the loss of James Ford to Wakefield Trinity. But Andrew Henderson is a superb replacement as the former Warrington Wolves assistant arrives after success at Keighley. They already have plenty of Super League talent in the squad already.

Sheffield Eagles
The Eagles have done some impressive transfer business ahead of the new season signing former Castleford Tigers man Jesse Sene-Lefao, former Cas and Leeds Rhinos halfback Corey Aston as well as exciting Leeds youngster Joe Hird. They already have strong halfbacks and could very well kick on in 2023.

Widnes Vikings
The Vikings have halfback Tom Gilmore who guided Batley Bulldogs all the way to the Championship Grand Final in 2022. He could very well turn them into promotion hopefuls as could the arrival of ex-St Helenes star Kyle Amor who is a four time Super League Champion.

Barrow Raiders
In 2022, Barrow shocked many with their brilliant season finishing in the top four in their first season in the Championship after promotion. They may have lost two star players in ex-Hull FC Hakim Miloudi and winger Tee Ritson to Super League Champions St Helens. But on the back of last year, it would be foolish to write them off.
