Carlos Tuimavave believes Hull FC youngster Davy Litten has what it takes to represent England one day. Litten has been in around the first-team at Hull for three seasons after initially forcing his way into the picture under the stewardship of Brett Hodgson.
He’s made 25 appearances for the Black and Whites in that time with four tries coming along the way, but it’s probably fair to say he hasn’t managed to establish a regular role within the side just yet with his game time coming in a number of positions across the back line. Tuimavave believes that could change pretty soon, though, with the Samoa international tipping Litten to take on the centre role in the not too distant future.
Tuimavave will be leaving the Black and Whites at the end of the season as he moves on to pastures new. However, he has spent the last few years watching, helping and nurturing Litten as he progresses as a player and he knows all about the talent the 21-year-old possesses.
As such, he feels comfortable enough to tip Litten to earn international caps in his career, with the back looking to take the next step under incoming head coach John Cartwright.
“In terms of passing the torch on, you look at kids like Davy Litten, I see him as an England international in the years to come,” Tuimavave told the press in his final press conference with the club.
“If he’s the starting centre next year, oh my God, the club should be excited about that. He’s got a bright future. Hopefully, I can pass the torch on to him, and everything that I’ve shared with Davy in the last couple of years can take him to the next level as well.”
Litten, who is the cousin of Hull KR hooker and former Hull FC man Jez, has missed the last two months of action with an MCL injury, picked up in the club’s last win against Wigan Warriors. However, he has been named in Simon Grix’s 21-man squad to take on Salford Red Devils on Saturday afternoon and he’ll be looking to make an impression once more before the end of the campaign.
