The blow Wigan Warriors suffered before Leeds Rhinos clash and why Cade Cust was taken off

Wigan Warriors' Cade Cust has been one of Salford Red Devils' key signings.

Tonight was a Wigan fan’s worst nightmare. In form, pushing at the top of the table coming to Headingley against an injury and suspension hit Leeds team and losing 42-12 was a bit of a reality check for the Warriors.

It serves as a reminder of the work Peet still has to do if he’s going to fulfil the awesome potential developing at the club under his watch.

However, the Warriors did suffer a blow themselves before the game which led to the debut of Mike Cooper.

After the match Peet revealed that Patrick Mago “was set to play” but came down with an illness this morning opening the door for new arrival from Warrington Mike Cooper to make his debut prematurely on a difficult night for the Warriors.

Some Wigan fans may also be worried that star halfback Cade Cust had suffered an injury with him being withdrawn from the game.

However, Peet revealed this wasn’t the case. Instead, Cust was withdrawn to “freshen things up” and “try and get Jai and Bevan more in the game” as Leeds continued to do an excellent job at shutting down Wigan’s main two danger men Jai Field and Bevan French with energetic defence with Peet repeatedly praised after the game.

It was a tough night for him, his players and their fans however they can be happy that Cust and Mago – two signings who have helped underpin Peet’s Wigan revolution – should be available next week as the Warriors strive to bounce back.

Peet also confirmed that there are no apparent new injury concerns from the game.
