The 8 players that will leave Warrington Wolves as things stand

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves look like they could take the race for the League Leaders’ Shield right to the wire, currently sitting just two points behind top spot.

They’ve been pretty consistent this season under Sam Burgess, and after coming so close to a Challenge Cup trophy, they’ll be looking to go one further in grabbing the LLS and, of course, the Grand Final victory.

Despite the long-term injury of their starting halfback in Leon Hayes, they have kept their impressive form up, with a star-studded side including players such as Matt Dufty and George Williams who are at the top of their game.

They’ve also strengthened their side for the end of the campaign, with Luke Bates signed from Huddersfield Giants and John Bateman coming in on loan from NRL side Wests Tigers.

A number of players, however, are set to leave for the 2025 season.

After spending the rest of the season on loan with Salford Red Devils, Gil Dudson hasn’t been offered a new contract and will be free to find another club for 2025, after time with a number of Super League sides including Wigan Warriors and Caralans Dragons.

Meanwhile, Matty Russell, after being sent out on loan twice this year, is also set to depart the club for a second time, after his first spell with the club saw him score 83 tries in 96 appearances from 2014 to 2018.

He has had teams across the globe, also playing for Gold Coast Titans in Australia, Toronto Wolfpack in Canada and Toulouse Olympique in France in addition to his time in the UK.

It seems that forward Max Wood‘s time at the Halliwell Jones Stadium is up, after being somewhat of a regular on the bench for the Wolves this year – his first in Super League.

Tom Whitehead is another that hasn’t had his contract renewed, and the 21-year-old has only managed nine Super League appearances in his career to date, having been on loan to Swinton Lions, Rochdale Hornets, Widnes Vikings and North Wales Crusaders – and it now seems he will be looking for somewhere more permanent.

Meanwhile, a trio of Wesley Bruines, Josh Lynch and Jake Thewlis have one-year extension options – it remains to be seen whether the club will take these up before they leave the club.

Finally, John Bateman will likely to return to Australia after his loan deal is up at the end of the current campaign.
