Salford Red Devils are now, consistently, one of the better performing sides in Super League.
Under Paul Rowley, they’ve been improving year on year, and in 2024, they finished above high profile clubs such as Leeds Rhinos and St Helens to take home fourth place.
However, they fell at the first play-off hurdle to Leigh Leopards, one of the form sides in the second half of the season, and are now set to look towards another season where they aim to finally take some silverware.
The Red Devils have made some strong signings as they prepare for the 2025 campaign, with Chris Hill, Joe Bullock, Justin Sangare, Matt Davis and Esan Marsters joining the club.
However, there is a huge number of players that look close to heading the other way.
Every Salford Red Devils player whose contract is up after 2025
There are a number of big potential losses in the Red Devils’ squad, and there are a huge number of players off-contract after the upcoming season – 18 in total.
One of the big potential losses is that of Kallum Watkins, who is both worth a lot to the side due to his leadership as captain, due to his versatility – being very capable as both a centre and a second-rower – and due to his incredible experience, with six Super League titles under his belt.
Loghan Lewis was kept on for 2025 due to an option to extend, and he seems to have adapted to Super League life very well since signing from the NSW Cup, but his contract has just one year left too.
Joe Mellor and Jayden Nikorima are both in the final year of their deals too, meaning the side could lose two excellent half-back options as well as their number one hooker at the moment.
Another half-back that could head off is Chris Atkin, who struggled to keep a starting spot when Nikorima was brought in after release from Catalans Dragons.
There’s an option in the club’s favour to keep winger Deon Cross for 2026, so he is less likely to leave, and they’ll surely want to keep him after 12 Super League tries in 2024.
New signing Chris Hill was only signed on a one-year deal, so he could head off after just 12 months with the club, as could fellow prop and five-time Super League winner Brad Singleton, meaning Paul Rowley will surely have ‘front row’ circled ahead of his first year as Director of Rugby in 2026.
Second-rower Ben Hellewell is in the final year of his year, as is Jack Ormondroyd.
The powers that be at Salford Red Devils will surely have alarm bells ringing, as we’re only just over half-way through the potential departures – and starting centre Tim Lafai is next up, alongside all of King Vuniyayawa, Matty Foster, Kai Morgan, Chris Hankinson, Harvey Wilson, Jamie Pye and Nathan Connell.
There will surely be plenty of work to be done between the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
