The 18 players who remain free agents after their Super League release and next moves

Hull FC Jack Walker Super League - 06/09/2024 - Rugby League - Betfred Super League Round 25 - Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC - AMT Headingley, Leeds, England - Hull FC's Jack Walker.

Super League clubs are busy preparing for the start of the 2025 Super League season. Pre-season campaigns are underway and across the country players are being put through their paces as the new year moves into view.

It won’t be too long before trial games are taking place, then, and head coaches may well wait until after those games before deciding whether to make any last minute additions to their squad. It’s a limited market at this stage of the season, of course, but there are a number of players who remain without a contract after being let go by top flight sides at the end of the 2024 season.

Here’s a look at those players who remain free agents.

David Fusitu’a

It’s fair to say injuries got the best of Fusitu’a’s three-year spell at Leeds Rhinos and while there can be no denying his ability when he’s fit and firing, it remains to be seen what his next move will be.

Luis Johnson

Johnson left Castleford Tigers at the end of the season and he now has the difficult task of trying to find a new club while recovering from a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old spent just one season as a permanent Castleford player, having had spells with Hull KR and Warrington Wolves before then.

Seb Ikahihifo

Ikahihifo was another to be released before the end of his contract, leaving Huddersfield Giants after a nine-year association with the club. He made 140 appearances for the Giants in that time.

Matt Ikuvalu

The former Sydney Roosters man spent two seasons with the Dragons and scored 12 tries in 37 appearances. According to Rugby League Live he was offered to Super League clubs in 2025 but his next step remains to be seen.

Mitieli Vulikijapani

The Fijian spent four years at Hull but made just one appearance in his final two seasons with the Black and Whites before his release. He has made an appearance for rugby union outfit Northampton Saints, but isn’t known to have signed a deal with the club.

Jacob Miller

Miller’s time at The Jungle was cut short by a year and he has since been linked with a move to Huddersfield Giants. However, as it stands the half-back remains a free agent.

Paul Momirovski

Serious About RL’s sister site, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Momirovski is considering a coaching position with Sydney Roosters following his premature Leeds exit.

Charlie Severs

The back-rower was highly thought of at Hull but injuries got the best of him and he could well be forced to turn his back on the professional game.

Jack Walker

The full-back was released by Hull FC last month after just one season with the Black and Whites and is yet to find a new club.

Liam Tindall

Like Walker, Tindall was released from his contract early by Hull and he is currently looking for a new club. He made just three appearances for the Airlie Birds.

Tom Opacic

The centre left Hull KR at the end of the season with the Robins releasing him in order to make room for the signing of Rhyse Martin. There were reports in September that Opacic could be set for a return to Australia and pursue an opportunity with Brisbane Broncos, but nothing has emerged since.

Luis Roberts

The winger was released by Leeds without the offer of a new deal at the end of the season and as it stands he has not found a new club. It is understood that he has been in contact with Super League clubs over the off-season.

Daniel Hindmarsh-Takyi

The forward spent just one season with Castleford before his release. He’ll be on the lookout for fresh opportunities.

Nixon Putt

The Papua New Guinea forward was expected to return Down Under after being released from his contract a season early by the Tigers.

Ricky Leutele

Sky Sports have reported that Leutele could be on his way back to Huddersfield after leaving Leigh Leopards and that’s something that Luke Robinson has failed to rule out. That deal doesn’t look like happening now, though, and as it stands he remains without a club.

Sam Royle

St Helens confirmed the release of Royle at the end of the season after making 28 appearances for the club. At the time of writing, though, he is yet to find to find a new club.

Ryan Hampshire

The 29-year-old will be keen to line up a Super League move before too long in order to avoid missing too much pre-season action after leaving Wigan Warriors.

Wes Bruines

The outside back was released by Warrington Wolves after failing to make a senior appearance for the club. His year at the Halliwell Jones Stadium was injury hit and he struggled to find traction after joining the club from St Helens.
