A total of 174 NRL players are currently in the last year of their contracts and are now technically on the market. It’s fair to assume that a majority of the those players will end up staying in the NRL one way or another, be it by signing a new deal with their current club or by joining another side Down Under.
However, some will be signed up by Super League clubs ahead of the 2026 season. With eyes beginning to turn to recruitment beyond the 2025 campaign, recruitment managers will be starting to familiarise themselves with who might be available over the next few months and it won’t be too long before deals start to be announced.
A raft of players have made the move over for the 2025 season, with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Tom Burgess, Luke Keary, Tristan Sailor, Maika Sivo and Jordan Rapana among the most high profile Super League imports. But who could join them in Super League in 2026?
Well, there’s some huge names off contract at the end of the 2025 season, with the likes of Adam Reynolds, Daly Cherry-Evans, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Brandon Smith all entering their final years. A Super League move looks unlikely to say the least with the above names, while Kai Pearce-Paul is another who could be on the move Down Under.
Super League fans will be more than familiar with the names of Jackson Hastings, Will Pryce, Danny Levi, Ryan Sutton, Jake Clifford, Joey Lussick and Brad Schneider who all approaching the end of their respective deals, too. They have all spent time in Super League in recent seasons, while Hastings has already been linked with a move back to the Northern Hemisphere.
Other speculation won’t gather pace for a few more weeks or potentially months yet, while Super League clubs assess their options and monitor player performances.
