Super League clubs are readying themselves for the start of the 2025 season, which gets underway in just seven weeks’ time. Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity have already been in pre-season action and over the next month or so the other sides in the top flight will play trial games as they prepare for the long and winding road ahead.
As such recruitment ahead of the 2025 season won’t be high on the agenda at this point, but some clubs might just be tempted by the possibility of a late addition as the campaign edges nearer. Those clubs would find themselves fishing in a small pond, though, with only a limited number of players still available and without deals for 2025 after being released by Super League sides at the end of 2024.
Here’s a look at those free agents still looking for a new home.
Harvey Livett
Livett left Huddersfield Giants by mutual consent earlier this month and hasn’t found a new club just yet. He was released at the same time as Hugo Salabio, who has now signed a deal with Hull FC.
Luis Johnson
Johnson left Castleford Tigers at the end of the season and he now has the task of trying to find a new club while recovering from a knee injury. The 25-year-old spent just one season as a permanent Castleford player.
Liam Tindall
Tindall was released from his contract early by Hull in November and he is currently training with Bradford Bulls but hasn’t signed a deal as of yet.
Charlie Severs
The back-rower was highly thought of at Hull but injuries got the best of him and he could be set to take a break from the professional game.
David Fusitu’a
It’s fair to say injuries got the best of Fusitu’a’s three-year spell at Leeds Rhinos. There can be no denying his ability when he’s fit and firing, but it remains to be seen what his next move will be.
Jack Walker
The full-back was released by Hull FC last month after just one season with the club and while he has spoken with Leeds Rhinos, he is yet to find a new home.
Seb Ikahihifo
Ikahihifo was surprisingly released before the end of his contract, leaving Huddersfield Giants after a nine-year association with the club.
Matt Ikuvalu
The former Sydney Roosters man spent two seasons with the Dragons and scored 12 tries in 37 appearances. According to reports he has been offered to other Super League clubs but he hasn’t managed to sign a deal just yet.
Sam Royle
St Helens made the decision to release Royle at the end of the season and he hasn’t found a new club just yet.
Mitieli Vulikijapani
The Fijian spent four years at Hull but made just one appearance in his final two seasons with the Black and Whites before his release. He has made a guest appearance for rugby union outfit Northampton Saints, but isn’t known to have signed a deal with the club.
Luis Roberts
The winger was released by Leeds without the offer of a new deal at the end of the season and as it stands he has not found a new club. It is understood that he has been in contact with Super League clubs over the off-season, but a deal hasn’t been agreed just yet.
Ryan Hampshire
The 29-year-old is carrying an injury at present but once he’s recovered he will have high hopes of picking up a new deal.
Jacob Miller
Miller’s time at Wheldon Road was cut short by a year and he has since been linked with a move to Huddersfield Giants. However, as it stands the half-back remains a free agent.
Daniel Hindmarsh-Takyi
The forward spent just one season with Castleford before his release.
Wes Bruines
Bruines was released by Warrington Wolves after failing to make a senior appearance for the club. His year at the Halliwell Jones Stadium was injury hit and he struggled to find traction after joining the club from St Helens.
