Promoted Wakefield Trinity will have a new-look line-up on show in 2025 – and more change is on the cards after that.
Trinity’s squad was revamped when they were relegated from Betfred Super League at the end of 2023 and the rebuild has continued following their immediate return to the top-flight.
The reigning 1895 Cup holders, Championship league leaders and Grand Final winners have brought in 10 new faces ahead of next season, but 13 of their current squad are entering the final year of their contract.
Those include a world record holder and last season’s joint-top try scorer, so coach Daryl Powell is facing some big decisions over the next few months.
Under a major rule change, players with a season left on their deal were able to talk to rival clubs from December 1 – much earlier than the previous May 1 deadline.
Here’s who could leave Wakefield Trinity at the end of 2025 as things stand.
Renouf Atoni
The 29-year-old New Zealand forward has NRL experience with Canterbury Bulldogs and is preparing for his third season at Trinity. He played 28 times this year, scoring nine tries.
Luke Bain
Born in the USA, but a Scotland international, 24, Bain played in the New South Wales Cup for Parramatta Eels before joining Trinity ahead of last season on a two-year deal. He scored one try in 12 appearances in 2024.
Noah Booth
A 20-year-old utility-back, Booth joined Trinity from Warrington Wolves ahead of the 2024 season and made nine first team appearances, claiming three tries. He is set to spend 2025 on loan at Hunslet, where he also had a spell this year.
Mathieu Cozza
The French international, who has played in Super League with Catalans Dragons, signed for Trinity from Featherstone Rovers ahead of 2024 on a two-year contract and scored four tries in 15 games.
Jack Croft
The 23-year-old centre made his Trinity debut in 2019. He scored five tries in 19 appearances this year.
Josh Griffin
Oxford-born Griffin is in his third spell with Trinity, having made his debut in 2008. The 34-year-old centre or second-rower scored 18 tries in 29 games this year.
Liam Hood
Another survivor from Trinity’s last Super League side, the 32-year-old hooker – whose past clubs include Leeds, Salford and Leigh – has been at the club since 2022 and featured 29 times this year, scoring 12 tries.
Max Jowitt
The Championship’s reigning player of the year, full-back Jowitt is a world record holder after scoring an astonishing 500 points – from 26 tries and 198 goals – in 35 appearances this year. The 27-year-old made his Trinity debut in 2014.
Jay Pitts
A 35-year-old veteran, who made his Trinity debut in 2008, Pitts is in his second spell at the club and was one of their top performers this year when he scored 11 tries in 32 games, earning himself a new one-year deal.
Josh Rourke
The 24-year-old full-back signed for Trinity from London Broncos – where he was outstanding in their relegation campaign – at the end of last term. He is on a one-year deal, but that includes an option for 2026.
Matty Russell
The Scottish international back signed a one-year contract following his off-season move from Warrington Wolves. He had spells on loan with Hull FC and Leeds last year.
Isaac Shaw
A 22-year-old prop, Shaw made his Wakefield Trinity debut two years ago and returned to the club in 2023 after a spell playing in France. He made six appearances this year and also featured for Hunslet on dual-registration.
Lachlan Walmsley
Signed from Halifax Panthers ahead of last season, the Australian-born Scottish international back was Trinity’s joint-top try scorer with 27 in 32 games.
