‘That’s the crap we don’t need’ – Lam slams own side after ‘dumb’ defeat

Wigan fell to a 26-14 defeat to Hull KR tonight and head coach Adrian Lam could not have been more disappointed with his side’s performance.

“I’m really frustrated, there was a lot of effort but we were stuffed at the start of the game,” Lam said.

“It was a disaster at the start and it was too hard to catch them when we gave them a 16 point start.

“What happens is you work hard and exert extra energy to get back in the game but that takes a lot out of you.

“There were to many dumb penalties and dumb mistakes that hurt us in the end, but Sam Powell going down early didn’t help us and it messed up our rotation.”

Lam knows his side needs to improve if they are to finish in the top four.

“I felt confident in the second-half but that’s the crap that we don’t need.

“I was really frustrated at full-time and we had a sharp conversation at full-time – we’re trying to be this top four team and we understand what we need to do better, but we’re losing big moments in the game and we’re not giving ourselves a chance.”

The Warriors head coach gave an update on Sam Powell’s injury.

“Sam is ok, he was walking around straightaway – we’ve got a seven day turnaround so we’ve just got to monitor him and see how he goes.”
