“That’s just their education as young players” – Anderson provides thorough analysis of England Knights’ win over Jamaica

Paul Anderson has huge pedigree when it comes to development. In 2013, he took a Giants side who’d always failed to break into the top two under Nathan Brown and turned them into a winning machine. Now he presides over the development of Warrington’s youngsters including starlets like Connor Wrench, Josh Thewlis and Ellis Longstaff.

Thus, he’s perhaps the ideal man to be in charge of the England Knights at the minute and that was there for all to see in his post-match interview after last night’s 56-4 win over Jamaica at the Jungle.

Anderson provided a wholistic view of his team’s performance initially noting his pleasure at the result but his disappointment at a few errors: “We’re really pleased with the result. Forget the score line. we’re just really pleased with the result.

“We did some really good stuff and we did some really poor stuff which you’re going to get that. I thought our start to the game kept Jamaica in it.

“Credit to them [England Knight] they stuck to their guns and came away victorious in the end.”

From there he went onto analyse the way the young England side played the game as he strives to enhance their development so that one day they can go on to be full England internationals: “I thought when we just started playing rather than just showing how physical we are against some good solid Championship players we were playing against today and if you take them on just down the middle they’ll hurt you.

“The idea was to move them around a little bit but at the beginning we didn’t quite do that and we coped our medicine but we slowly started to get into that groove.

“The best set I can remember was the first one after halftime when we played with a bit of width.

“That’s just their education as young players. It’s not always just about the big plays.”
