“That performance was not acceptable” – Steve Price blasts his side’s loss against Leeds

Steve Price was unhappy with how his side performed in their 22-16 loss to Leeds.

“We were disappointing tonight, you could tell in that first set when we made 30 metres – which has been one of our main strengths,” Price said.

“They (Leeds) dominated field position and we had only one good ball set in the first-half and we scored a try.

“They were clearly the better team and they had a lot more positive actions than what we deserved – we competed at 60% and made 19 errors and you’re never going to win with that.

“Our tackle control wasn’t up to standard tonight and we deserved everything we got.

“We’ve got a team that really cares about the badge so they’re hurting and I expect them to be hurting because that performance was not acceptable.”

Despite the short turnaround, Price refused to use that as an excuse.

“That’s no excuse; they trained really well and they were fresh coming into the game.

“We certainly got into positions to get back into the game at 22-22, but we couldn’t execute that set when they went down to 11 men and there are questions I need to ask.”

The Warrington boss did have praise for three players in particular, however.

“I thought Josh Charnley was playing tough tonight, he carried the ball strong and scored that try to get us back into the contest.

“I also thought Toby King had some good moments and Mike Cooper gave us some good energy in his second stint.”
