Terry O’Connor has his say on controversial tackle in Grand Final

Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons are battling it out in the Super League Grand Final and to be crowned Super League champions in 2023.

Two physical teams who leave it all out there on the field, it is unsurprising that we have had a real physical start to the contest.

The fieriness started when Sam Tomkins was taken a touch late friend Liam Farrell with an arm across the chest.

Official Liam Moore waved play on. We also saw Sam Tomkins and Bevan French have a minor altercation whilst Abbas Miski was hurt by a thunderous tackle by Siosiua Taukeiaho.

Wigan fans didn’t like it and there was a suspicion of a shoulder charge and potentially contact with the head.

But Moore again waved on allowing the Grand Final to breathe with great officiating.

Terry O’Connor praised the tackle on Sky Sports agreeing with Moore that there was nothing illegal about the contact.

He said: “Taukeaiho said to Miski, come on if you’re going to run it out then run through this.'”

The 2023 Super League Grand Final saw Wigan Warriors and Catalans Dragons butt heads. The top two after the regular season level on points with one another and Champions St Helens.

Thus, this made for the most apt Grand Final as Wigan chased a sixth Super League title and Catalans Dragons battled to become the first new team since 2004 to lift the Super League trophy.

Their appearance at Old Trafford made history itself as they became only the sixth different team to reach more than on Grand Final after Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Bradford Bulls and St Helens as well as their opponents Wigan Warriors.

Thus, it was posed to be a historic Grand Final in which former Wigan star Sam Tomkins was set to play a huge role in what was his final ever game before retirement.
