Taane Milne verdict given as Huddersfield Giants boss makes prediction

Luke Robinson expects Taane Milne to get better and better the more game time he has with Huddersfield Giants. Milne missed Huddersfield’s opening three Super League games after flying back to Australia for the birth of his child.

However, he returned to the club last week and with Robinson short of numbers, he was thrown straight into the side for a debut at Wigan Warriors. The Fiji international came off the bench at the Brick Community Stadium and played through the middle, which isn’t a position the outside back is particularly familiar with.

He got himself involved during his stint on the field and Robinson was pleased with what he saw. He’s confident though that Milne will be able to make more of an impact when he has built up his fitness and settled into the swing of Super League.

“I thought he was pretty good,” the Huddersfield Giants boss said after the clash at the Brick Community Stadium. “He’s not trained because of his knee injury.

“Going back over to home, he obviously was training and doing his rehabilitation over there but it’s a lot harder to do it over there by yourself when you don’t have the physios around you.

“I thought he was good in the middle and I thought it would be easier for him going in the middle at first, not having that game fitness, training or the loads in the legs. He’ll get better and better the more he trains.”

Adam Clune was another Giants star making his first appearance of the season, with the scrum-half missing the opening three rounds through injury. Robinson felt confident enough to throw him straight into the starting XIII, though, and Clune was involved in everything Huddersfield did well in the first half, with two try assists coming along the way.

“Cluney is our general and that’s never been a secret,” Robinson added. “We play through him and we have players that complement him but he’s the one who organises the team, him and Zac at hooker.

“We threw Ash (Golding) in and I thought Ash was great again and he was really good last week when we lost Zac (Woolford). Clune is only going to get better and better the more he plays and trains.”
